FiNAN Receives Moniheli Microgrant to Support Filipino Nurses in Finland

The Nordic Filipino Nurses Association (FiNAN ry) has been awarded a Moniheli Microgrant 2026 to implement the project “The Well-being and Rights of Filipino Nurses in Finland (FILHOVO).” The initiative aims to strengthen awareness of workers’ rights, well-being, and available support services among Filipino nurses working across Finland.

As part of the project, FiNAN will organize two open dialogue and information sessions—one in Southern Finland (Helsinki) and another in Northern Finland (Rovaniemi). These gatherings will provide a safe and welcoming space for Filipino nurses, particularly those who are newly arrived in Finland, to discuss challenges in working life, integration, and professional development.

The sessions will cover important topics such as:

  • Employees’ rights and responsibilities in Finland;
  • Ethical guidelines and professional standards for nurses;
  • Access to health, social, and legal support services;
  • Well-being, mental health, and community support; and
  • Practical guidance in difficult life situations, including what to do in cases of employment disputes, loss of employment, deportation or return procedures, and the death and repatriation of a loved one. Participants will receive information on the roles of relevant authorities, embassy services, and community support networks that can provide assistance during these challenging circumstances.

A key feature of the project is its emphasis on open dialogue, allowing participants to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from one another in a supportive and confidential environment.

The project is implemented in collaboration with important partners, including the Philippine Embassy in Finland, the Department of Migrant Workers – Migrant Workers Office (MWO), and Filippiinit-Seura ry, helping ensure that participants receive accurate and relevant information.

The microgrant is supported by Moniheli ry, a Finnish umbrella organization that promotes diversity, equality, inclusion, and the participation of people with migrant backgrounds in Finnish society. Through its network of multicultural organizations, Moniheli supports grassroots initiatives that strengthen communities, encourage civic participation, and foster meaningful dialogue.
