During the program, Ambassador Pablito A. Mendoza emphasized the significant contribution of Filipino-trained nurses to the Danish healthcare system and underscored the importance of understanding the Danish authorization process to facilitate successful professional integration.

Representing the Authorization and EU Health Insurance Section of STPS, Ms. Julie Dahl and Ms. Vaida Vitkuté Enevoldsen provided a comprehensive overview of the authorization pathway for foreign-trained nurses, including qualification assessment, Danish language requirements, and clinical employment requirements.

As FiNAN President, Floro Cubelo welcomed the continued collaboration between STPS, the Philippine Embassy in Denmark, and FiNAN in supporting Filipino nurses pursuing professional opportunities in Denmark and strengthening their integration into the Nordic healthcare workforce.

“I am very pleased with this collaboration with STPS and the Philippine Embassy. It is important that Danish society utilizes the best possible resources to ensure the delivery of high-quality care services for its population. Filipino nurses bring valuable competencies, professionalism, and a strong commitment to patient care. Through initiatives such as this orientation, we can better support internationally educated nurses in understanding the authorization process and successfully integrating into the healthcare system,” said Floro Cubelo.

Cristal Tolosa-Warburg, Vice President of FiNAN Denmark and presenter during the orientation, emphasized the importance of evidence-based dialogue in addressing the realities faced by internationally educated nurses seeking authorization in Denmark.

“As the presenter, I had the opportunity to share research on the challenges faced by Filipino nurses in Denmark throughout their authorization and integration journey. This collaboration between STPS, the Philippine Embassy, and FiNAN brought together key stakeholders to openly discuss the critical issues that internationally educated nurses encounter before, during, and after the authorization process.
The discussions highlighted not only the experiences of Filipino nurses but also the evidence-based realities surrounding recruitment, authorization, language requirements, employment, and retention. I hope the insights generated from this work can inform policymakers, healthcare leaders, and nursing organizations in Denmark. To fully utilize the potential of internationally educated nurses, it is essential to understand both their contributions and the systemic gaps that affect their integration.
Achieving a sustainable and successful workforce strategy requires a win-win approach, one that supports both Denmark’s healthcare needs and the professional aspirations of international nurses. By listening to lived experiences and acting on the evidence, we can create a more effective, transparent, and supportive pathway that benefits nurses, employers, patients, and society as a whole.”

In her closing remarks, Cristal Tolosa-Warburg underscored the broader goal of such initiatives:

“The goal is not merely to bring nurses to Denmark, but to ensure that they are successfully integrated, supported, and empowered to contribute their skills. When research, policy, and stakeholder collaboration come together, we move closer to creating a system that works for everyone.”

FiNAN also reaffirmed its commitment to increasing the number of Filipino nurses residing in Finland who qualify for professional recognition and authorization across the Nordic region. Through information sharing, mentorship, advocacy, and collaboration with key stakeholders, FiNAN aims to empower Filipino nurses to successfully navigate licensure pathways, advance their professional careers, and contribute to safe and high-quality healthcare services in their host countries.
