The Filipino Nurses Association in the Nordic Region (FiNAN), through the Guild of Filipino Nurses in Sweden, continues to advance its mission of supporting internationally educated nurses (IENs) seeking professional recognition in Sweden.
On 28 February 2026, Kerstin Ulin, Vice Head of Education and Director of Studies for the Bridging Programme for Nurses at the University of Gothenburg, delivered an in‑depth presentation about the programme created for nurses educated outside the EU/EEA. The session, held at the Grand Curiosa Hotel in Gothenburg, was attended by Filipino internationally educated nurses and health workers eager to learn more about the steps toward becoming licensed Registered Nurses (sjuksköterska) in Sweden.
Dr. Ulin outlined the structure, academic requirements, clinical components, and support systems embedded in the Bridging Programme, which serves as a pathway for competence recognition and integration into Swedish healthcare. Participants engaged in discussions about challenges faced by IENs and opportunities for improving access to professional adaptation.
Following the presentation, FiNAN and the University of Gothenburg expressed mutual enthusiasm for developing future collaboration initiatives. These efforts may include informational activities, academic‑community partnerships, mentoring systems, and tailored support for Filipino nurses navigating Swedish licensure processes.
This meaningful engagement highlights FiNAN’s continuing commitment to advocating for Filipino nurses across the Nordic region and reinforces the University of Gothenburg’s dedication to supporting globally trained nurses in their transition to Swedish practice.
